The holidays available are first summarised below and then this is followed by details for each when known.

The holidays may be organised completely by the West Essex Ramblers or the West Essex Ramblers may liaise on behalf of a major walks holiday company.

All holidays have to be booked and this web site does not necessarily keep up to date with when holidays are fully booked. There are often late cancellations for holidays.

This 5 day Walking Holiday, staying at the Bayshore Hotel Sandown, will cost approximately £190; p.p., plus £20 single room supplement. We will have the daily use of a coach which will collect us from London, and half-board: bed, breakfast and evening meal. There will be a choice between all day and half-day walks, but most walks will have climbs, some quite steep.West Wssex will be providing the leaders for the Walks' programme. 48 places are available on the holiday but there are only 3 single rooms. There is a £30 deposit that is required at the time of application, which is non-retunable if you subsequently drop out of the holiday. [June 2009]

A short ferry ride from the Greek mainland, Evia is an enticing walking destination with a ragged coastline, picturesque villages, fine beaches, gorges and ridges. With our three leaders we will explore the slopes of the region's highest peak, Mount Ochi, with its green valleys, unique vegetation and mountain streams. Spring flowers should be in abundance. Walk grades (D/D+) are generally in 'moderate terrain' and Ds can expect reasonably energetic days of up to 5 hours walking. The higher rating may include longer rambles with some easy mountain walking. Ochi summit may be possible if weather conditions are suitable. Light-weight boots, at least, are essential for both grades. We will have a choice of walk level each day. We will stay in the harbour town of Karystos (Google Map). (See Note 1) Hotel Karystion (3-star) overlooks the sea, is close to a beach and a stroll from the town centre. The hotel has a dining/breakfast room, lounge and bar. Dinner will be in the hotel on the first night, after which dining will be in local restaurants. The 'taverna experience' is popular with West Essex and we will be able to sample a variety of the local cuisine with vegetarians easily accommodated. In all, we can look forward to fascinating walking (and eating) experiences on an island just a little off the usual tourist track. Basic Holiday Cost: £799 p.p. inclusive of flights (from Heathrow), transfers, seven nights half board accommodation and a full walking programme with three leaders. Local transport costs that are part of the holiday are not included. Single Supplement: £91 p.p. All rooms (twin bedded and singles) are en suite with balcony, TV, climate control, fridge and hair dryer. Please note, single rooms are very limited. Initial Deposit: £100 p.p. Insurance: Not included, but essential. Group Discount: Based on the holiday cost (excluding supplements) Ramblers Worldwide Holidays will offer a group discount if sufficient numbers are reached. This money will be used to provide coach transport from our usual pick up points to and from Heathrow. The travelling times have yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be an early morning flight. Subject to satisfactory services, the discount should also cover gratuities to be given to the three leaders, and coach drivers, both here and on the island. I will be incurring certain on-going costs in the organisation of the holiday (photocopying, phone calls etc) and these will be taken out of the discount. Any monies remaining will be placed in West Essex Group funds.
