Photo Gallery ... A Family Walk Day

Using a screen size of 800x600 is good for the 640x480 images as this maximises the size you see them, however, a higher resolution screen is recommended for the 2560x1920 images as this gives a much better overall colour.

I Love Walking Badge

The London Loop Book

Keith and Cynthia Wenden have again produced a nice walk for the family which allowed both the children capable of walking and those in buggies to enjoy a day out and Wenden's efforts were rewarded by good weather.
At the beginning of the walk, whilst we were assembling, Keith and Cynthia gave out notebooks and pens to the children and then the children were able to fill them up with observations of the forest with a particular emphasis on what people did and what things you would find in this forest. One child filled quite a number of pages and was praised for the effort he put into doing it and I think they all got a balloon at the end.
Thanks for yet another lovely day.

Some commentary on the photos,
which is also a reflection on the walk
[Road information is just to help identify where we were].

1
Walkers Assembling
2560x1920
Today the walk was from Chingford, opposite thr Butler's Retreat (Image showed this) which was beside the Royal Forest hotel and the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge.
2
Walkers near Rangers Road
2560x1920
We set off through Epping Forest and curved back onto this path by Rangers Road, which was set for Connaught Waters, until we met another path (short of Connaught Waters) at the Warren woods.
3
Scenes in the Forest
2560x1920
We turned right and walked along the path (Image 1) on which a boy stopped to write in his observants book (Image 2) which a number of the children had and were filling in. We passed an Old Arch (Image 3) to our right being absorbed by the undergrowth and turned right from the main path to walk a narrow one (Image 4) in single file.
4
Walking along a Narrow Path
2560x1920
We continued along this narrow path which twisted and turned as though we walking in a maze.
5
A Morning Break
2560x1920
There was a pause for a snack, a tradition for the Ramblers even on short walks. The walkers emerged into a glade and regrouped (Image1), people started to eat (Image 2), this boy (Image 3) had a larger appetite for his observation book whilst more food was being distributed (Image 4) elsewhere.
6
Feeding the Children
2560x1920
Everyone ate and appeared preoccupied.
7
Crossing Whitehall Road
2560x1920
We reached Whitehall Road and crossed it.
8
Walking along a Path
2560x1920
We continued along this path (through Hatch Forest).
9
Woodford Golf Course
2560x1920
We passed Woodford Golf Course.
10
A Glade and Walkers
2560x1920
We turned right and almost opposite this glade there was a forest house to our left side and then we crossed the River Ching (the source of which is at Connaught Waters) and onto the end of a forest road named Newgate Street.
11
The River Ching
2560x1920
We turned right and walked by the Ching.
12
Walkers on another Narrow Path
2560x1920
Again the path narrowed at a place where we passed two ladies resting on a log.
13
The River Ching and a Fallen Tree
2560x1920
We went north with the Ching to our right. It was not untypical to see trees fallen like this in the forest.
14
Crossing the Ching
2560x1920
We re-crossed the Whitehall Road (and the river) and after a shortish way crossed the Ching (the picture) again aiming back towards the start.
15
Catching Up
2560x1920
Some walkers having been preoccupied on the walk now became runners!
16
Start Them Young
2560x1920
I love walking (running) his badge boasts, particularly as he was pushed in his buggy.
17
A Tree with a Cellar
2560x1920
We walked on another forest road - Warren Road. The highlight for the children was this huge tree (Image 1) which let the children clambered down into and under its roots (Images 2, 3 and 4).
18
Children under the Tree by its Roots
2560x960
Under the tree it looked tight from here (Image 1) but Images 2 & 3 showed just how roomy it was. She (Image 4) wanted to go down again!
19
A child and His Observation Book
2560x960
All the children were thanked for filling in their books, particularly this boy who appeared to observe everything and got a special praise.
20
Studying the Pond
2560x1920
Behind the tree of Picture 17, Image 1, there was Warren Pond and was where finally the children's attention was taken.
Then we walked back to the car park which was several hundred yards away.

Thanks, Keith and Cynthia, for a lovely walk.
